Tesla Optimus and AgiBot A2 are often grouped together as full-size humanoid robots. They are not at the same commercial stage, and they are not aimed at the same first job.
Verdict: AgiBot A2 has the stronger procurement path for a supervised service-robot pilot. AGIBOT publishes base-A2 specifications and accepts commercial enquiries; the separate A2 Lite variant has a listed store price. That does not establish base-A2 delivery, certification or support in every region. Optimus is the more ambitious general-purpose platform, but Tesla still has no public order page, MSRP, delivery commitment or current product specification sheet. A buyer cannot procure it.

The table deliberately leaves Tesla hardware cells blank where Tesla does not publish a current value. Older Gen 2 demonstration figures should not be presented as specifications for an unreleased production robot.
The two robots solve different first problems
Tesla describes Optimus as a general-purpose autonomous biped intended to handle unsafe, repetitive or boring work. Its public AI page emphasizes balance, navigation, perception and interaction with the physical world. The goal is broad. The product offer is not.
AgiBot A2 has a narrower brief. AGIBOT positions it for human-facing service work: reception, guided presentations, customer service, retail assistance and exhibitions. Its product page describes full-duplex conversation, facial recognition, sound-source localization and lip-reading in noisy environments. Those are vendor-published capabilities rather than independent performance results, but they show what the A2 is being sold to do.
That distinction matters. An operator choosing a reception or exhibition robot can write an A2 pilot around a defined environment and task. An operator choosing Optimus would be waiting for Tesla to publish the product, support model and deployment terms.
Availability: AgiBot has a sales path; Tesla does not
AGIBOT provides a product enquiry form for the base A2 and runs an official global store. The store lists the separate A2 Lite at $44,560. The base A2 and A2 Ultra remain quote-only, so the Lite price should not be copied across the family.
An enquiry form is not a delivery commitment. AGIBOT does not publish a universal lead time, country-by-country delivery list, local certification matrix or field-service coverage for the base A2. Before treating it as available, get the exact variant, delivery territory, lead time, warranty, spare-parts route and local support entity in writing.
Tesla has not opened Optimus reservations or public sales. Its Q1 2026 update said first-generation production lines were being installed in anticipation of volume production. Tesla's annual report and quarterly filing still describe Optimus as a robot being developed and commercialization as future work with execution risk.
Production preparation is useful evidence. It is not a customer order process. Until Tesla publishes an order page, exact configuration, delivery market, warranty, support terms and a current data sheet, Optimus belongs on a watchlist rather than a procurement shortlist.

Hardware comparison: A2 is measurable; Optimus is not yet comparable
AGIBOT publishes 169 cm height, 69 kg weight, a 700 Wh battery, two hours of runtime and more than 40 active degrees of freedom for the base A2. It also says the battery can be swapped. These are manufacturer specifications, not a guarantee of two useful operating hours under every workload.
The A2 perception stack is more explicit. AGIBOT lists a 360-degree lidar and six cameras, with its HIMUS mapping and VectorFlux planning software used for 3D-SLAM navigation. The company describes the resulting mobility as L4-level. There is no neutral humanoid autonomy standard that makes this label directly comparable with an automotive L4 rating, so buyers should ask for the operating design domain and intervention policy.
Tesla's public material explains the software direction but does not give buyers a current product data sheet. Tesla says it is extending vision and planning work into bipedal robotics. That may become a strong advantage because Tesla can combine AI development with manufacturing scale. It does not let a buyer compare payload, runtime, hand configuration, duty cycle or safety limits today.
Deployment evidence: do not mix variants or demos
AgiBot has shown the A2 series in public service settings. At a February 2026 event at United Nations Headquarters, AGIBOT said A2 robots performed Chinese calligraphy and held natural voice interactions with guests. That is relevant front-of-house evidence, although it does not publish uptime, intervention rate or task success over a normal working week.
The A2 Ultra variant also completed a 106.286 km walk that AGIBOT says received a Guinness World Record. The result belongs to A2 Ultra. It should not be used as proof that every A2 configuration has the same endurance, autonomy or thermal performance.
Tesla's evidence is earlier in the commercial ladder. The company has shown public demonstrations and reported production-line installation. It has not published customer deployments, supported task packages, fleet uptime, intervention rates or delivery terms. A broad general-purpose goal is harder than a controlled reception workflow, but that does not excuse the missing buyer evidence.
Safety and support questions
AGIBOT says the A2 uses three layers of safety monitoring and PLd-level protection, with redundant computing and safety centers. Buyers should request the underlying declaration, scope, test report and applicable standards. A marketing page is not a site safety assessment.
AGIBOT also publishes a defined security-update period for the A2. The current document lists support from January 1, 2026 through January 1, 2027. One year is a concrete commitment, but it is short for industrial equipment. A procurement team should negotiate the patch period, end-of-support notice and response time in writing.
Tesla does not publish an Optimus commercial safety certificate, warranty, service-level agreement or security-support term because there is no public product offer. Those items should be treated as release gates, not details to solve after a pilot begins.
Which robot is better for your use case?
Shortlist the base A2 only after regional confirmation
The base A2 is the stronger candidate for reception, customer guidance, exhibitions and other supervised front-of-house work. There is a defined product, a contact path and a published specification set. A buyer still needs a written, variant-specific offer covering delivery territory, lead time, local support, language quality, remote access, data handling, charging workflow, battery-swap procedure and site-specific safety.
Watch Optimus for general-purpose factory work
Optimus is the more interesting long-term bet if Tesla turns its AI and manufacturing resources into a supported robot platform. The intended scope is broader than A2's service focus. Today, however, there is no robot a buyer can order and no current specification sheet against which to write acceptance tests.
Choose neither for an open research platform
Tesla does not offer Optimus as a developer product. The base A2 is a commercial service platform, not the clearest option for open robotics research. A lab that needs SDK access, low-level control and reproducible hardware should compare products designed for development rather than assuming either brand will expose the required stack.
What to demand before buying
For AgiBot A2, request a written quote tied to an exact variant and configuration. The acceptance plan should cover:
- included hands, sensors, compute and charging hardware;
- supported languages and noise conditions for interaction;
- runtime under the buyer's actual task, plus battery-swap time;
- autonomous operating boundaries and human intervention triggers;
- remote-access, data-retention and security-update terms;
- safety documentation, local compliance and risk-assessment support;
- warranty, spare parts, field service and software licensing.
For Optimus, wait for the same evidence before treating a Tesla target as a product. The minimum release package is a public order path, current specification sheet, exact price, delivery territory, supported tasks, safety documentation, service terms and customer operating data.

AgiBot A2 has the stronger procurement case for a buyer acting in 2026, conditional on a written offer for the exact variant and market. It has a defined service role, published base-A2 specifications and a commercial contact path. The buyer still needs to establish delivery, local support, compliance and performance in a real pilot.
Optimus wins only as a long-term platform thesis. Tesla's goal is broader and its potential manufacturing advantage is large. Until the company publishes a product offer and customer evidence, that potential should not be scored as present-day capability.
