Figure 01 Price 2026: Was It For Sale & What Happened to It

Figure 01 was never publicly for sale, never had a published price, and was quietly superseded when Figure unveiled its second-generation robot in August 2024. That is the direct answer to both halves of this page's question. But calling it discontinued undersells what actually happened: in roughly 18 months of public life, Figure's first humanoid went from a CGI render to walking hardware, landed the BMW agreement, starred in one of the most widely covered robotics demos of 2024, and helped raise $675 million at a $2.6 billion valuation. It was retired the way a successful prototype is retired. The robot Figure builds and deploys today is the Figure 03.

First, the name: Figure 01, "Figure 1", and Figure the company

Figure AI styles its first robot "Figure 01", sometimes "F.01". Most searchers, and Google's own suggested questions, write "Figure 1", which is the same machine. Neither should be confused with Figure the fintech company, which has nothing to do with robotics, or with the company Figure AI itself, whose story we cover separately in our Figure AI company review. This page is about the robot.

Sources for every row are linked in the sections below and in the reference list; the pace is the story. Boston Dynamics spent over a decade on Atlas. Figure went from nothing to a walking, task-performing humanoid in under two years, and the capital that built its successors followed that pace.

The viral demo: what was real

The March 13, 2024 video, "OpenAI Speech-to-Speech Reasoning", is the reason most people know this robot. A man asks for something to eat; Figure 01 hands him an apple, and when asked why, replies that it was "the only edible item I could provide you with", all while collecting trash and racking dishes.

The "it's staged" and "it's teleoperated" accusations followed within hours, partly because the robot's synthesized voice said "uh" like a person. The company's technical account addresses them directly: an OpenAI multimodal model handled the speech, vision and reasoning; Figure's own learned neural policies ran the manipulation, mapping onboard camera images to actions at 10 Hz; and Figure engineer Corey Lynch stated that "all behaviors are learned (not teleoperated)" and shown at normal speed, which CEO Brett Adcock confirmed. That is the company's documented account; no independent technical audit of the demo was ever published. The honest caveat is different: it was a controlled, single-take showcase in a prepared scene, not a robot improvising in the wild. Real, and also carefully staged in the theatrical sense. One warning for readers in 2026: Elon Musk publicly questioned the autonomy of a much later Figure demo; whatever you make of that exchange, it is about a different robot and a different video, and does not apply retroactively to Figure 01.

Specs on record, and what Figure never disclosed

The first five rows come from Figure's original spec page, since removed from its site and preserved in web archives; the 41-degrees-of-freedom figure comes from The Robot Report's October 2023 technical breakdown. Treat them as the historical record rather than a live datasheet. Just as telling is what Figure never disclosed for this robot: a price, the compute platform, actuator details, battery capacity, or how many Figure 01 units were ever built. Every one of those blanks has since been filled by third-party guesswork somewhere on the internet.

The price truth

Figure 01 never had a published price, was never publicly offered for sale, and no documented customer deployment of it has been identified. Neither, for the record, has any Figure robot since: the company has never announced a price for any generation, and there has never been a public order channel. The "$30,000 to $150,000" ranges in buying guides are unauthorized third-party estimates, the separate "roughly $50,000" figure traces to a reported future production-cost goal rather than a Figure 01 selling price, and pages that show a request-a-quote button next to Figure 01 specs are implying a purchasability that never existed. If a Figure robot ever gets a price, it will come from figure.ai, and it will be news.

The BMW record: which Figure robot actually worked there

The January 2024 BMW agreement is permanently attached to Figure 01's story, and it deserves precision, because some spec sites still claim Figure 01 "was deployed at BMW's Spartanburg plant". It was not. The agreement was an announcement of intent, milestone-based, with no robot on site. The robot that actually went to Spartanburg was Figure 02, first in a multi-week trial in August 2024, then in a deployment Figure itself later documented: over what Figure describes as roughly 11 months on the X3 body shop line, the fleet supported production of more than 30,000 vehicles, loaded over 90,000 parts and logged 1,250-plus runtime hours against Figure's stated target of over 99% task success per shift, before being retired in late 2025. The newest arrival is Figure 03, which came to Hall 52 in June 2026 for a parts-sequencing project BMW announced that month, with an initial logistics demonstration on record. Figure 01 signed the deal, so to speak; its successors did the work.

The OpenAI arc, from partner to ex

Figure 01's fame is inseparable from OpenAI, and that relationship has a clean three-act structure. The OpenAI Startup Fund invested in the Series B, and a collaboration agreement was signed on February 29, 2024. Thirteen days later came the apple demo, the partnership's peak and the moment that made the robot famous. Then, on February 4, 2025, Adcock ended it, announcing on X: "Today, I made the decision to leave our Collaboration Agreement with OpenAI. Figure made a major breakthrough on fully end-to-end robot AI, built entirely in-house." The post closed by promising something "no one has ever seen on a humanoid" within 30 days, and sixteen days later Figure unveiled Helix, its in-house vision-language-action model, which has powered every Figure robot since. His stated logic: to solve embodied AI "you have to vertically integrate robot AI", and large language models had become "the smallest piece of the puzzle". The robot that made OpenAI-plus-Figure famous did not survive to see the breakup.

What actually happened to the Figure 01 units?

Here is the honest answer nobody else will give you: it is not public. Figure has never said how many Figure 01 units existed, whether any still run in its labs, or where they went. There was no retirement announcement and no museum donation press release. The company's own framing is the epitaph on its YouTube retrospective: "Figure 01: the robot that got Figure AI started." Any page claiming to know the fate of specific units is guessing.

Where Figure is now

The company Figure 01 started is, as of July 2026, one of the most valuable private robotics companies on earth: a $39 billion valuation after its late-2025 round, the Helix model family in its second generation, and Figure 03 in production at its BotQ facility, which Figure said in April 2026 had delivered more than 350 robots and accelerated from one robot a day toward one per hour. Reports point to a Figure 04 with a locked architecture and a third-generation Helix in development, though neither has been officially announced. The bottom line

Figure 01 is the rare robot whose discontinuation was a promotion. It was never a product: never publicly priced or sold, with no documented factory deployment. It was a proof, built in under two years, that a startup could do dynamic walking, learned manipulation and a live language interface on one machine, and it converted that proof into the BMW relationship, the OpenAI moment and the capital that built Figure 02 and 03.
