This guide gives the real robot dog cost at every tier, taken from manufacturer stores and named US resellers rather than aggregators, and then covers the part most price pages skip: what you keep paying after the box is open.

How much does the WowWee Dog-E cost?

$79.99. WowWee does not sell it directly, so that figure is the retail price through Best Buy, Macy's and similar. It is an app-connected toy with a light-up face and a personality setup that differs per unit, and stock has been thinning through 2026. It rolls rather than walks. For a child, that distinction matters far less than the price does.

How much does the Joy for All Companion Pet Pup cost?

$179.99, direct from Ageless Innovation. There is no app, no account and no subscription. It barks, responds to touch and sound, and has a heartbeat you can feel through its side. It was designed for older adults rather than for technology buyers, and it is the one product here that is routinely bought by care homes.

How much does KEYi Loona cost?

$499, against a $529 list price. Worth knowing that this went up: Loona sold for $429 earlier in 2026, so round-ups still quoting the lower figure are out of date. It is not shaped like a dog and it moves on wheels, but it recognises faces, plays fetch-style games and holds a conversation through a GPT-4o voice mode. KEYi does not currently charge a subscription on top.

How much does Tombot Jennie cost?

Around $1,500, and you cannot buy one yet. Jennie is a therapy Labrador puppy developed with Jim Henson's Creature Shop, aimed at dementia care, and it is waitlist-only with more than 18,000 pre-orders. Tombot does not list a price on its own site; the $1,500 figure comes from its earlier public statements. Treat it as an indication rather than a quote.

How much does Sony aibo cost?

$2,899.99, and this is the one where the sticker genuinely misleads. That price includes three years of Sony's AI Cloud Plan. The plan is not optional, because aibo needs it to be set up and to function, and once the three years are gone renewal runs $300 a year. Five years of aibo ownership is therefore about $3,500, not $2,900. Sony also announced in June 2026 that Japanese sales are ending as stock runs out, so this generation is closing.

How much does the Unitree Go2 cost?

$1,600 for the Air, $2,800 for the Pro and $4,500 for the X. Unitree states plainly that those prices exclude tax and freight, and US buyers have reported shipping in the $399 to $1,000 band, so a Go2 Air lands nearer $2,000 to $2,600 in practice. It is still the cheapest genuinely capable walking quadruped anyone sells, and it is the reason the category stopped being research-only.

How much does Deep Robotics Lite3 cost?

Roughly $5,000 to $19,000 depending on configuration, through US resellers rather than direct. The spread is mostly sensing: a basic remote-controlled unit sits at the bottom, a LiDAR-equipped research platform at the top. Deep Robotics is the most serious Chinese rival to Unitree, and it competes on payload and ruggedness rather than price.

How much do the Unitree Go2-W and B2 cost?

The wheeled Go2-W is reseller-listed from about $15,199. The B2 family runs roughly $85,000 to $106,500 through the same channels. The B2 is the one from the viral off-road videos: IP67-rated, around 20 kg of continuous payload, built for inspection and logistics rather than demonstrations.

How much does Boston Dynamics Spot cost?

There is no public price, and the figure everyone repeats is wrong. Boston Dynamics sold Spot online for $74,500 in 2020, then moved to enterprise sales and stopped listing it. Its shop now sells merchandise. What buyers actually pay is traceable through public procurement: the NYPD bought two units for $750,000 in 2023, and the LAPD fields a donated Spot valued at about $280,000. How much does Deep Robotics X30 cost?

Quote only. The X30 is Deep Robotics' industrial flagship, rated IP67 and from minus 20C to 55C, and it is sold into power-grid and tunnel inspection. Reseller estimates put it somewhere above $65,000, but no one publishes a number you can rely on.

How much does Ghost Robotics Vision 60 cost?

Press reporting puts it around $150,000 to $165,000. It is not sold to civilians. Vision 60 units patrol US Air Force bases, and Ghost Robotics sells into defence and security rather than to the public.

What the sticker price leaves out

Every tier has a running cost, and they are not the same shape.

Freight, tax and duty

This is the biggest single gap between listed and landed cost. Unitree's prices carry an explicit note that tax and freight are excluded, and the machines ship from China. On a $1,600 Go2 Air, freight alone can add a quarter to a half of the purchase price again. Anyone budgeting from the sticker will be short.

Subscriptions

Only one product here has a mandatory one, and it is the expensive one. Sony's AI Cloud Plan costs $300 a year after the included three years, and aibo will not set up without it. KEYi does not currently charge for Loona. The Joy for All Pup has nothing to subscribe to. If you are comparing a $2,899.99 aibo against a $499 Loona, the honest comparison over five years is roughly $3,500 against $499.

Batteries and wear parts

The toy tier runs on replaceable batteries and that is the whole story. The walking tier is different: a quadruped's battery is a consumable with a finite cycle life, and legs have joints that wear. Budget for a replacement battery within the ownership period on anything you actually walk, and treat feet and joint covers as parts that get used up.

Repairs and support

At the consumer end you have a warranty and not much else. At the industrial end you are buying a relationship: support contracts, spares availability and response times are part of the price, and they are a large part of why an inspection-grade quadruped costs what it does. This is also where quote-only pricing comes from, because the machine and the support are sold together.

Why robot dog prices vary so much

Legs are the answer to most of it. A walking quadruped needs twelve coordinated actuators, a balance controller running constantly, and enough sensing to handle ground it has not mapped. That is a genuinely hard engineering problem, and it is what a $1,600 Go2 is charging for that a $99 toy is not.

Above the walking threshold, price tracks four things: how much the machine can carry, how well it is sealed against water and dust, how long it runs between charges, and what support comes attached. A B2 costs more than a Go2 because it carries 20 kg all day in weather, not because it walks better.

The $40 robot dogs in social ads are not a budget tier

Two of the most-searched robot dog names in America are not robotics products at all. Wuffy and Nicoo are promoted through AI-generated TikTok and Facebook advertising and follow a pattern consumer-protection researchers have documented in detail: an anonymous storefront, a countdown discount, and a battery-powered plush toy worth a few dollars wholesale. One Australian buyer found the identical Nicoo item listed on Temu for under $6.

They matter to a cost guide only because they distort what people expect to pay. A walking, sensing robot dog cannot be built for $40. Real robot pets start around $80 from named companies with support and retail distribution, and anything genuinely lifelike starts in the four figures.

So what should you budget?

For a child or a desk pet, $80 to $180 buys something real. For an older relative, the $179.99 Pup ships today and the roughly $1,500 Jennie is worth watching. For the most lifelike thing money buys, plan on about $3,500 over five years for an aibo rather than the $2,899.99 on the page. For anyone who actually wants a robot that walks, the Unitree Go2 at $1,600 plus freight is the entry point, and it is not close.

Above that, you are no longer shopping. You are procuring, and the number comes from a conversation rather than a checkout page.
