Figure 03 and Boston Dynamics Atlas are built for different jobs. Figure 03 is a lighter general-purpose humanoid with an explicit home focus. Atlas is a 90 kg industrial robot designed for material handling and enterprise systems.
Verdict: Put Atlas first for heavy factory work. Put Figure 03 first when the brief involves household environments or lighter, varied manipulation. Neither is a normal consumer purchase, and neither company publishes a list price.

Figure 03 and Atlas target different work
Figure describes Figure 03 as a general-purpose robot moving into the home. Its hardware follows that brief: washable textile covers, foam around pinch points, palm cameras, sensitive fingertips, improved audio and wireless charging. Figure also shows the robot handling household tasks such as laundry, cleaning and dishes. Those are company demonstrations, not independent evidence of household safety or reliability.
Boston Dynamics positions Atlas as an enterprise material-handling robot. The product page emphasizes barcode scanning, fleet-wide skill deployment, autonomous battery swaps and connections to MES and WMS systems through Orbit.
The distinction is not absolute. In June 2026, Figure reported Figure 03 working on an automotive sequencing workflow at BMW Group Plant Spartanburg, combining two-handed manipulation with walking and balance. Figure is pursuing both home and commercial work. Atlas starts with industrial uptime, load handling and integration.
Payload, size and duty cycle
Atlas publishes the higher load figures: 30 kg sustained and 50 kg instantaneous. Figure lists a 20 kg payload without stating whether that is sustained, instantaneous or measured at a particular reach. Atlas therefore has the clearer heavy-load specification, but the numbers should not be treated as a like-for-like test.
Figure 03 is 29 kg lighter and about 17 cm shorter. That smaller body may matter in rooms, narrow back areas and existing work cells. It does not prove that Figure 03 is safer or easier to deploy around people. Buyers still need task-specific safety evidence and a site review.
Figure publishes five hours of runtime, while Boston Dynamics lists four hours during typical use for Atlas. The service model can outweigh the headline number. Figure 03 can recharge on a 2 kW wireless station. Atlas can navigate to its station, swap its battery and return to work. Compare productive time across a complete shift, including planned charging, swaps, resets and faults.
Autonomy, sensing and manipulation
Figure 03 runs Helix, Figure's vision-language-action system. Figure says Helix handles perception, movement and reasoning on board and in real time. Palm cameras provide close-range vision when the main cameras are occluded, while Figure says each fingertip sensor can detect three grams of pressure.
Atlas uses tactile sensing and a 360-degree camera view, with 56 degrees of freedom and 2.3 m of reach. Boston Dynamics says a skill learned by one Atlas can be deployed across a fleet, while Orbit connects the robot to enterprise systems and tracks work and performance.
There is no public benchmark showing that either AI stack is generally smarter. Figure gives more detail about language-led, varied manipulation. Atlas presents a fuller package for industrial fleet integration. Test both with the buyer's parts, lighting, floor layout, cycle-time target and recovery cases.
Production and real-world readiness
Figure has disclosed more manufacturing volume. On April 29, 2026, the company reported that BotQ had delivered more than 350 third-generation robots and demonstrated a one-robot-per-hour production cycle. Figure said those units were allocated across research, data collection, housework development and commercial use cases. This is a company-reported production milestone, not a count of paying customer deployments.
The BMW sequencing work is a useful field signal because Figure 03 is operating in a factory workflow rather than only in a staged home demonstration. Figure's update does not publish uptime, intervention rate or cycle-time results, so it cannot yet be compared with a customer acceptance test.
Boston Dynamics shows Atlas moving from a Hyundai customer pilot into a select early-adopter program. Its public sales path asks prospects to plan the application, evaluate the workflow, train task-specific skills and integrate the robot into operations.
Neither record makes these robots commodity products. Figure has published more fleet and production data. Atlas has the more explicit enterprise product and integration specification.
Price and availability
Neither company publishes a list price on its current product page. Atlas directs qualified prospects to contact sales. Figure publishes product and manufacturing information but does not offer a public order page.

Individuals cannot check out with either robot. Enterprises can approach Boston Dynamics through its sales process; Figure is allocating robots across internal programs and selected commercial work. Safety and serviceability
Figure says Figure 03 uses soft textiles, multi-density foam around pinch points and a battery that achieved UN38.3 certification. UN38.3 covers battery transport testing. It is not a complete certification that the robot is safe for unsupervised home use.
Atlas publishes IP67 protection and an operating range of -20°C to 40°C. Its autonomous battery swap can reduce manual intervention during a shift. Those specifications do not replace an application risk assessment.
Before approving either robot, ask for stopping behavior, fault recovery, guarding assumptions, change-control procedures and evidence from the exact task.
How to compare the robots in a paid pilot
Set acceptance targets before either supplier tunes the workflow. Measure complete shifts, not the best demonstration cycle.

Bottom line
Atlas should lead the shortlist for heavy industrial material handling, harsh environments and enterprise fleet integration. Figure 03 should lead when the brief centers on a smaller body, varied manipulation and environments the company is explicitly designing around homes.
Neither should win from brochure specifications alone. Run the same task, report the same measures and make the purchase decision from intervention rate, cycle time, productive uptime, recovery, safety and installed cost.
